Reflective Essay
Intro
My name is San Tran, a senior attending ACLC. I have attended ACLC since 6th grade in 2014. Since I've spent so much time here, the culture of ACLC really influences me in how I work and function.
Personal Qualities, Work Habits, and Attitudes
I was not always the kind of learner to take initiative and do work on my own. Before, what motivated me to do work was the idea of last-minute panic. I used to do my work only at home. We did have a decent amount of free time during school, too. He had project periods, which are the same as free periods, where we can do what we want. I used to spend this time playing Magic all the time. That quickly wore off, because as I grew, so did the workload and difficulty of work. This led me to put away my procrastination and focus more.
I feel that sometimes I try too hard when it comes to working sometimes. It can actually be an obstacle to me sometimes. While it probably is a good thing, for the most part, it can get in the way of my time. However, I think it is worth it overall because it gives me a chance to improve myself while doing work. I can focus on how to be more efficient and produce more quality work while getting a good grade. This is if I turn the assignment in on time, but that usually happens
New Basics
I was never really good at English ever. I would always struggle with my grade in English, and it would be the only subject that I really had to put in work for. I’ve slowly improved on my English work, and have started to relax on it a little more. Not relaxing enough to let my guard down though; 11-12th grade English grades can change in a blink of an eye. I was also never really great at speaking out loud, and I sort of still am. However, I am slowly crawling out of my hole that I dug myself in, and am starting to tinker with my social skills and finding ways to improve upon it.
Thinking and Reasoning Skills
I sometimes had struggles trying to think of solutions sometimes. There would be times where the answer was so obvious that I didn’t think of it because it seemed too easy. Now, I’ve learned not to overlook any solution, because it can never hurt to try it. I’ve also figured out how to manage my time better. I did this by just being more effective in how I do my work. Now, I can think my way through work, and also do a good job on it.
One thing I feel that I have been good at is being able to think in many different ways. When a problem does come up, I end up thinking of a bunch of different ways to solve it. Sometimes, I will have too many ways to solve a problem, which would lead me back to my issue above. I am, however, certain that being able to find solutions is an important part of problem-solving. Making the right choice is another.
Interpersonal Skills
I haven’t always been the loud and proud leader that most people desire to be. I don’t always step up all the time and want to be the leader of the group. However, if we don’t really have much of a choice in terms of leadership, then I can step up and take that role. Sure, I don’t particularly want to, but I can do it. When I take that role, I can also teach others things that I might know. It’s not the person who you’ll always hear about, but it’ll do what it needs to do.
Technology
I usually am very knowledgeable when it comes to technology. I can diagnose an issue with a computer or laptop, and can find a solution. It doesn’t just apply to hardware, though. I can also find out what is wrong with an application or file, and also find a fix for it. I can also help other learners whenever they need help with a tech thing, or just need advice on something. Ever since I was near technology, I had always been tinkering with it and messing with it. With this mindset, I have always been trying to figure out how things work, and how to improve them. This will help me in the future, as our world is revolving around technology today.
